The Ministry of Education plans to grant a subsidy of 400 euros next year to all students with disabilities, severe conduct disorder, autism spectrum disorder, severe communication and language disorder and high abilities. The same news comes with the news of an extra game of 200 million to increase the amount of residency scholarships (for those students who have to move to another city to continue their studies after compulsory education) from 1,600 to 2,500 euros per year. In the 2020-2021 academic year, almost 118,000 students received a residence scholarship, according to ministry statistics.

As for students with special needs, those with any of the characteristics that, according to the draft, will make them beneficiaries of the 400-euro subsidy regardless of their family situation and their income level totaled 345,000 two academic years ago. In the case of students who will receive the subsidy, this “It is justified by the fact that families with sons or daughters who have these needs assume very significant additional costs to meet the vital requirements of their sons and daughters, which, together with the current economic circumstances, requires extraordinary support. , which will be added to the amounts that already appear in the aforementioned call, resulting in an additional increase in aid with this subsidy”. For the rest, the royal decree maintains the amounts of the aid for this course and the income thresholds that cannot be exceeded to access the scholarships. 

In the 2017-2018 academic year, the ministry's scholarships reached 1,013,037 students and in the 2020-2021 academic year, the last one collected by the statistics, there were 1,224,189.
