WHAT ARE IMMUNODEFICIENCIES?
Primary immunodeficiencies are a group of inherited disorders in which the immune system is compromised. This makes the person more susceptible to infection and disease, as their body cannot adequately protect itself.
Did you know that neurodevelopmental pathologies and immunodeficiencies share the following symptoms?
- Delayed growth and development: These may include low birth weight, slow growth and delayed psychomotor development.
- recurring infections: Serious and recurrent infections, such as pneumonia, otitis media, meningitis and sepsis.
- neurological problems: problems in communication and social interaction, as well as repetitive behaviors and rituals. Other neurological disorders may include mental retardation, seizures, and movement disorders.
