Pharmacogenetic profile that studies the genetic polymorphisms related to the therapeutic efficacy of antidepressants and antipsychotics, to personally select the most appropriate drug and dose for each person.

Antidepressants and antipsychotics have numerous adverse effects and problems of ineffectiveness. They are also likely to interact with other medications, making their selection and dosing difficult.

There is great interindividual variability in the response to psychotropic drugs. This variability can be reduced by studying genetics and interactions that the patient may have.

Depressive disorders are treated with different medications that act on the central nervous system, increasing neurotransmitters (mainly serotonin and norepinephrine). These medications are classified into families of tricyclic antidepressants and heterocyclic inhibitors of monoamine reuptake inhibitors and monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs).

Antipsychotics act on dopaminergic pathways and, in the case of atypical agents, also on serotonergic pathways. However, this type of therapy is nonspecific and acts on several pathways in the central nervous system.
