Stress Test, Echevarne

Cortisol and DHEA level. The Stress Test assesses and identifies if the patient is under the physiological response called stress. Stress is the normal physiological response to stimuli that threaten or challenge our body. All these processes are self-regulated in a very precise way by hormonal axes. Although a certain degree of stress is positive for maintaining alertness in these situations, the fact that these stimuli are maintained over time is not. The physiological manifestation of stress is an increase in the concentration of cortisol hormone, the effects of which are counteracted by the hormone DHEA-S. It is the balance between both hormones that guarantees the proper functioning of the system. Using a saliva sample, this test is capable of analyzing the level of stress by measuring the concentrations of the hormones cortisol and DHEA at different times of the day. Two measurements of DHEA-S are made, at 12 and 16 hours. The cortisol tests are carried out at 8, 12, 16 and 24 hours.
